Coriander also known as cilantro, Chinese parsley or dhania is an annual herb in the family Apiaceae bearing botanical name Coriandrum Sativum. It is native to regions across Southern Europe, Northern Africa and South Western Asia.
Coriander Seeds – The whole dried seeds
The grown up plant bears a small pale pinkish flowers which turn to seeds. The aromatic and spicy seeds of Coriander are used in cooking and as medicines from ancient times.

Dried coriander seeds are one of the common spice ingredients used worldwide. It is used as flavouring agent in confectionary, stews, sausages, sweet breads, and cakes.
In Indian cuisine it is used in Garam Masala and as thickening agent in curries.
It is used widely in the process for pickling vegetables in other parts of world, except Asia.
In Germany and South Africa it is used in making sausages.
In Russia and Central Europe, coriander seed is an occasional ingredient in their rye bread.
It can be used as carminative and digestive supplement along with dill and fennel in gripe water preparation.
This can be chewed to prevent unpleasant breath.
